Biography

Joan Gelfand's poetry and short stories have appeared in numerous national literary journals. In 2005, she received the Chaffin Fiction Award.

She is the author of "Seeking Center", a collection of poems, and is currently working on a novel, "Voice Over". Her letters and articles have appeared in Poets & Writers, Inquiring Mind, The New York Times Magazine, and other publications. Anthologies include "If Women Ruled the World", "Meridian Anthology of Contemporary Poetry", "Jewish Women's Literary Annual", and "Streets of New York".

Joan currently serves as President of the San Francisco Chapter of the Women’s National Book Association. In 2000, she founded Salon CIEL, an interdisciplinary group of artists working in the Bay Area.

Joan earned an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Mills College in Oakland, California.
